Global Equality Celebrated at SF Pride
Hundreds of thousands of people filled the streets around San Francisco’s Civic Center last weekend for the city’s 42nd annual LGBT Pride Parade and celebration.

Wilton Manors was once again the place to be for the Stonewall Summer Pride Festival and Parade. The skies may have been gray but that did not stop the crowd from enjoying this fun-filled event.
Teaching the History of Pride to Our LGBT Youth
Gay youth might recognize that Stonewall is a cool bar, but few know the history of the June 1969 riots that sparked the Gay Liberation Movement. It is up to the adults in our community to give our youth a sense of history.

Vermont to Celebrate LGBT Community in Northern New England’s Premier Pride Festival
The Pride Vermont Committee announced its plans for the state’s annual Pride Vermont celebration, scheduled for September 21-22, 2012. The festivities, which will be held in September for the first time in order to better include Vermont’s students.

Houston’s Pride Parade was bursting at the seams with an estimated 150,000 participants. Houston’s openly gay mayor Annise Parker and Bravo TV’s Madison Hildebrand were among those who showed their pride in the bayou.

Pride, Protest & Sexual Politics at the 20th Annual Dyke March
The New York City Dyke March celebrated its 20th year of marching for visibility on Saturday, June 23, but clashes between lesbians and the transgender and gender-variant community at Washington Square Park indicate that more work remains to be done.

After the parade, over a million revelers, three hundred vendors, and twenty community run stages filled the majestic Civic Center Plaza with an orgy of costumes, cocktails, music, dancing, food, and plenty of flesh. EDGE has the photos.

The crowd at the Vic on Sheffield enjoyed top acts like the Scissor Sisters and its openly gay lead singer Jake Shear. Later, across the street at Berlin Nightclub, the band’s DJ, along with Jake, and Rapper Rye Rye, showed up.

Edge Paparazzi migrated down the road to Houston to celebrate Pride. Showcasing more than 200 contingents and exhibitors and multiple stages, the Festival brought out an estimated crowd of 60,000.

Kennedy Center to Display Panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt
The seven arts-related panels will include tributes to Alvin Ailey, Rudolf Nureyev, Howard Ashman, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and more. The Quilt now consists of more than 48,000 panels representing the lives of 94,000 individuals taken by AIDS.
