Fort Lauderdale’s Pride in the Sun

For a city with such a high percentage of gay people as Fort Lauderdale, it only makes sense that there would be two pride festivals. There’s one in June, and then another that took place recently at Holiday Park.

The June Pride Weekend has a parade and parties while this one, entitled Pride in the Sun, is mostly a fair with vendors, a hypnotist, hot dogs, hamburgers, and a whole lot of sun tan lotion.

Happy Pride! South Florida Pride’s indoor/outdoor festival brought 250 vendors, performers, and drag queens out to entertain the crowds at the Holiday Park/Warm Memorial Auditorium. It also included a 10th anniversary showing of portions of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Check out the photos from EDGE!

Youth Pride prepares for ’National Day of Silence’

Providence-based Youth Pride, Inc. (YPI) will be holding a "Break the Silence" dance on Friday, April 25, an event held at the conclusion of the "National Day of Silence." DJ Lady Fingers and DJ Cake Mix Gigglebox will appear.

Pride goes green

This week the committee announced the theme for this year’s parade, "Sustaining our community, conserving our world," and the more green-oriented theme will likely win over the critics. It has already drawn praise from the bloggers at QueerToday.com, among the most vocal critics of the 2007 theme.

NW Indiana Rainbow Days, is a two-year old LGBTQ organization with an ambitious agenda.

The Gary-based organization is planning a first-ever Pride Parade for July 7, 2008. It is scheduled for high noon on a 20-block route down Broadway, from 25th to 5th.

Thousands of people will descend on Lake Worth noon to 6 p.m. March 29 and 30 for the 15th annual Pride Festival of the Palm Beaches organized by Compass, the gay and lesbian community center of the Palm Beaches. The event will take place at Bryant Park, 30 South Golfview Road in Lake Worth. Tickets are $7.
