PopUps: Sam Smith and Model Boyfriend Split
It looks like Sam Smith got what he wanted: The British soul singer revealed Tuesday that he and model Jonathan Zeizel are splitsville.
Their break up comes about a month after the 22-year-old Grammy-nominated pop star revealed the two were dating and that he hopes Zeizel dumps him so he can use the experience for a new album.
"I'm just going to try to fall in love and make them dump me so I can write another record," he told MTV last month. "I always thought I would wait [to write new songs], because I've got a long time to go before I'm even going to think of releasing, but I've already started writing some songs and have some ideas and stuff."
As Idolator points out, Smith announced he and Zeizel were done at a concert on Tuesday. He later confirmed the breakup via an Instagram selfie with the caption: "Sometimes you just need to lay in bed with a glass of red wine and a football T-shirt and listen to Joni Mitchell. It's been a sad day. Beautiful show, but sad day x."
Smith and Zeizel met on the set for Smith's music video of his single "Like I Can."
When the singer first revealed he was in his relationship, apparently his first ever, he said Zeizel is "really sweet."
"It's a surreal thing to be talking about because I haven't even confirmed with him that we're officially seeing each other," he added. "But people need to realize I'm never going to be happy. The reason I do what I do is because I'm an artist who is always going to be blue about something.
"It's just the way I am -- I'm an emotional person," he said.
The break up announcement comes just a few weeks after Smith and Zeizel were living it up in Australia. The singer posted a number of pictures on Instagram showing the couple and their friends having a blast down under.
Anyway, the good news about their split up? A possible another amazing album full of heartbreak may be on its way!
