The upcoming fifth season of "American Horror Story" got a strange but exciting new addition to its cast Monday night when co-creator Ryan Murphy tweeted that "New Girl" star Max Greenfield, who plays ladies man Schmidt on the Fox sitcom, will join the FX anthology series, subtitled "Hotel."

Greenfield, 34, who has also starred in the Fox comedy series "The Mindy Project," was quick to reply to Murphy about his new role.

"Thank you @MrRPMurphy .....It's ON! #AHSHotel," he tweeted.

Greenfield is the latest addition to the "Hotel" cast, which currently includes "AHS" veterans, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Chloe Sevigny, and Wes Bentley. New comers include, Lady Gaga, Cheyenne Jackson and Matt Bomer (who had a one-episode guest role in "American Horror Story: Freak Show" last year). "Hotel" will be the first season in the series to not feature leading lady Jessica Lange.

In other "AHS: Hotel" news, E! points out Lady Gaga dyed her hair from brown to platinum blonde for her upcoming role, posting photos of her transformation on Instagram.

"Hotel," which is apparently inspired by the screwball 1935 comedy "Top Hat," is expected to film this summer and air in October.
