PopUps: Rihanna Has Apparently Been Helping a Gay Fan Come Out
Rihanna is proving why she is one of the best and most real pop stars around.
The "Work" singer has reportedly been helping a member of #TheNavy come out of the closet via Twitter's direct message, BuzzFeed reports.
The messages, which have been screen shot and posted on social media, show RiRi giving compassionate advice for the anonymous fan, who was struggling with his sexuality.
"I just wanna live as the person I really am, not as a liar," he wrote.
"Baby it's okay to be scared, but it's more important to be who you are!" Rihanna reportedly responded. "You don't have a choice really! That's not a decision to be made! You are who you are, and as hard as it may seem, the best shit ever is freedom and peace within yourself! Your family may not understand, but luckily you live in a generation that does!! And not to mention the community here amongst us, we will hold you down boo!! #NavyRdie"
The fan told Ri that he finally came out to a friend and told BuzzFeed he first opened up to the pop star a month ago because he felt as though he didn't have anyone else to talk to who would understand. He also told BuzzFeed it's been hard for him to come out as a gay black man but Rihanna's message have helped him feel better about who he is.
"Slowly letting everyone know that I am gay thanks to you and I've never felt so comfortable," he wrote to Rihanna. "Stanning for you was the best decision I've ever done. I'm thankful, please never forget!"
"How could I ever forget? I'm so proud of you!" the singer responded. "I'm glad to see you finally happy with yourself!! Being who you are is the only way!"
She later added: "Thank YOU for being honest!! I'm so happy you're getting what you deserve! I'll be forever supporting you, you were here from day 1. Love you more!!"
BuzzFeed notes the fan hopes to fully be out of the closet by July, when he'll meet Rihanna during her Anti World Tour.
