PopUps: Get Ready for a Lisa Frank Movie

Thursday January 19, 2017

Hey 90s kids: Get ready for your gay little hearts to explode into confetti, rainbows and hippie aliens.

A live-action/animated Lisa Frank movie is currently in the works, according to Entertainment Weekly. This is great news for people who grew up collecting the designer's colorful and trippy stickers, pencils, and trapper keepers.

Frank is working with producer Jon Shestack ("Air Force One," "Dan in Real Life") to create the film, which has inspired her work.

"I have always wanted to do a feature film that brings the world of Lisa Frank to life," she said in a statement. "We have so much backstory on our characters and they have been alive in my imagination since the beginning."

Shestack said Frank's world is "is cheerful, it's optimistic, it's hip, but it is without snark. It's just sort of impossible to scowl when you're smiling, and why would you want to?"

In a world where a feature film about emojis exists, a movie inspired by Frank's work doesn't seem so crazy.
