PopUps: Are Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper Still Friends?
Anderson Cooper stopped by Andy Cohen's "Watch What Happens Live!" show this week and was asked if he and Kathy Griffin were still friends, following her bloody Donald Trump photo that cost her the CNN New Year's Eve special.
"Yeah, we're still friends," the out CNN reporter told Cohen Tuesday night. "Look, I said a lot. I said what I said. I didn't think what she said was appropriate but I wish her the best and back on the road."
"She's gonna be touring in a minute, don't you think?" Cohen asked.
"She's incredibly funny and a lot of people love her and I think she will bounce back from this," Cooper responded.
In May, Griffin came under fire for sharing a photo featuring a decapitated head resembling Trump. The controversy cost her several gigs, including hosting the CNN New Year's Eve special with Cooper.
Cooper first responded to Griffin's controversy in June.
"She and I have been friends for a long time and I want nothing but good things for her," he said at the time. "I don't want anybody's career to be destroyed because they do something unfortunate and inappropriate, but yeah, I thought what she did was inappropriate.
"You know, I think I said that I thought it was completely inappropriate and I didn't approve it in any way, and I think when you're friends with somebody, you can say that," he added.
