PopUps: Barbra Streisand Says Her Dogs are Clones

Tuesday February 27, 2018

In a new interview with Variety this week, Barbra Streisand says two of her dogs were cloned from her 14-year-old Coton du Tulear, who died in 2007.

The iconic singer said her dogs Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett came from the cells taken from her dog Samantha's mouth and stomach.

"They have different personalities," Streisand told Variety. "I'm waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her [Samantha's] brown eyes and seriousness."

The singer's third dog is a distant cousin of Samantha. Variety writes: "A breeder brought the dog, whose mother had been named Funny Girl, and Streisand was smitten. She adopted the new dog and called her Miss Fanny, which is how Fanny Brice's dresser refers to the character in the movie."

After her new dogs were born, Streisand said she donned them in red and lavender to tell them apart - that's how they got their names, Miss Scarlett and Miss Violet, respectively. Fans can often see her three dogs appear on the star's Instagram.

Variety published a cover story with Streisand Tuesday, which you can check out by clicking here.
