PopUps: Are We Getting a '9 to 5' Reboot?
There's no better time than now to get a "9 to 5" reboot.
Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox is "in the early stages" of a new version of the 1980 comedy that "would focus on three young women dealing with sexism and chauvinism in the workplace."
The film's original stars, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton, are "eager to reprise" their roles, Deadline writes.
Though no casting news was revealed, sources told the publication Patricia Resnick, who cowrote the original "9 to 5" along with Colin Higgins, will team up with actress Rashida Jones ("The Office," "Parks and Recreation") to pen the new version for a "young comedy audience."
After hitting theaters in 1980, the comedy became a huge hit, earning $103.3 million. Parton's theme song, "9 to 5," became one of her biggest hits of the decade and was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Song. The film was turned into a Broadway musical in 2009, with music and lyrics by Parton, earning four Tony Award nominations.
