PopUps: As If! 'Clueless' is Getting a Remake
The '90s comedy classic "Clueless" is getting the Hollywood remake treatment.
Variety is reporting Paramount Pictures is developing a remake of the 1995 film. Tracy Oliver, who wrote the 20117 comedy "Girls Trip," is producing the new "Clueless." However, she won't be writing the script — Marquita Robinson, a story editor and writer on the Netflix comedy "GLOW," has been tapped to pen the upcoming movie.
No word as to who will star in the remake or when it will hit theaters.
The original "Clueless" was directed and written by Amy Heckerling and focused on teens at a high school in Beverly Hills. It starred Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz. The movie also starred Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Breckin Meyer, Jeremy Sisto, and Dan Hedaya. Loosely based on Jane Austen's 1815 novel "Emma," the film was produced by Scott Rudin and Robert Lawrence.
"Clueless" went on to earn $56 million in the U.S. on a $12 million budget, according to Variety. A "Clueless" musical starring Dove Cameron will debut in New York next month.
