Ahead of her new movie "John Wick 3," Anjelica Huston gave a wild interview with Vulture in which she seemed to shade the upcoming film "Poms," a comedy starring Diane Keaton, Pam Grier, Rhea Perlman, and Jacki Weaver, who responded to that interview with Vanity Fair.

Directed by Zara Haynes, "Poms" is a comedy about "a group of women who form a cheerleading squad at their retirement community, proving that you're never too old to 'bring it!,'" according to the IMDb synopsis. When speaking to Vulture, Huston was asked about why she joined the popular action franchise that stars Keanu Reeves as a hitman. That's when the "Poms" shade came:

"I'm looking for movies that impress me in some way, that aren't apologetically humble or humiliating like, 'Band of cheerleaders gets back together for one last hurrah,' you know," she said. "An old-lady cheerleader movie. I don't like that kind of thing. If I'm going to be an old lady—and I'm sort of touching old lady these days—at least I want to be a special old lady."

A day after that interview Weaver spoke with Vanity Fair about Huston's comments.

"Didn't she grow up in a castle in Ireland?" the Australian actress cracked, referencing Huston's childhood spent mostly in Ireland, where her father—the filmmaker John Huston—was a citizen. "I can't see her cheerleading," Weaver said. "But then, I grew up in Australia, where there is just no cheerleading culture. I think the most interesting acting happens outside your comfort zone."

She went on to say that she met Huston a number of years ago at a party in Hollywood and said she was "charming." But that changed with her Vulture interview.

"I just laughed," Weaver told Vanity Fair about Huston's remarks. "And then I said, 'Well, she can go fuck herself.' I was kind of disappointed. I had always been an admirer of Anjelica. And I thought, 'That's a bit mean and petty.'

"I would say she must be going through menopause, but she must have had that ages ago," she continued, adding that Huston's remarks about "old lady" roles were correct.

"That's the problem—there's so much ageism in our society," she said. "And a lot of it comes from the ages," Weaver told the publication. "People are people. Some of us got here sooner than others. A lot of my close friends are in their thirties. Except for the creakiness in your bones, I don't think there is really that much difference between us when we really get to know each other."

Elsewhere in the Vulture interview, Huston talked about her friendship with the late Penny Marshall, misogynist film critics and defending Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, and Jeffrey Tambour. Click here to check it out in full and click here read Vanity Fair's interview, "Weaver."

"Poms" hits theaters on May 10 and "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" opens on May 17.
