Billy Eichner's Queer RomCom 'Bros' Just Got Queerer

Thursday November 4, 2021

Billy Eichner's already-queer "Bros" just got queerer with the announcement that Harvey Fiersteinand"SNL's" Bowen Yanghave joined the cast of the upcoming film, alongside an ensemble cast that includesLuke Macfarlane,Symone,Miss Lawrence,Guillermo Diaz,TS Madison, and Eichner himself.

It was reported in September that the film would feature an all-LGBTQ principal cast and will give LGBTQ representation a giant leap forward.

"The actors join a principal cast comprised exclusively of out, LGBTQ+ individuals," writes Variety.

"As part of this casting mandate, all principal heterosexual roles in the film will also be played by queer people. The move reaffirms Universals's commitment to expand and diversify LGBTQ+ representation on screen. Slated to hit theaters in August 2022, the project is described as a 'smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They're both very busy.' "

Yang was recently Emmy nominated for his work on "Saturday Night Live," where he's been the most recent breakout star. He spent the summer shooting another mainstream queer project — a remake of "Pride & Prejudice" set on Fire Island. Tony-winning playwright/actor Fierstein is best-known for film roles in "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Independence Day," as well as giving voice in "Mulan." He won a Tony award for playing Edna Turnblad in the musical version of "Hairspray" in 2002.

The film recently started shooting in New York, which cast member Luke Macfarlane shared on IG.
