Asbury Park’s Hotel Tides To Donate Restaurant Proceeds to Ali Forney Center
Asbury Park, NJ - On Sunday, June 26, 2011,the Hotel Tides will be donating a portion of its proceeds from the bar and restaurant to the Ali Forney Center (AFC) in New York.
AFC is the nation's largest and most comprehensive organization dedicated to homeless LGBT youth. Their goal is to provide homeless LGBT youths, aged 16-24, with the support and services they need to escape the streets and begin to live healthy and independent lives.
Tragically, as many as 25% of these teens are rejected by their families, and many end up homeless on the streets. Homeless LGBT teens are more likely than straight homeless teens to be subjected to violence on the streets, and in the homeless shelter system. They suffer from inordinate rates of mental illness, trauma, HIV infection and substance abuse.
AFC was started in June of 2002 in response to the lack of safe shelter for LGBT youth in New York City.
"Too many children have been left homeless because of their sexual orientation. The Ali Forney Center does remarkable work on counseling and housing these teens who would otherwise have no place to go to."
- Ryan Jimenez, General Manager, the Hotel Tides
