Popular gay porn star Arpad Miklos reportedly committed suicide in his New York City apartment on Sunday. He was 45.

According to the recent episode of the YouTube series "Gwissues," Howard Bragman, a Hollywood publicist, interviewed the porn star's close friend Randal Lynch, who confirmed that Miklos, whose real name is Peter Kozma, was found dead on Feb. 3 after apparently taking his own life.

"He was a great guy on top of [being a porn star]. There was a lot more to him than just that surface persona," Lynch said. "He was a very active person in the gay community. He gave a lot of money to charities. He was a good guy."

When Lynch was asked if Miklos showed any signs of suicide, he said, "He wasn't happy, I would say, but he wasn't going into crying fits. He was a hard nut to crack," he continued. "I knew he was depressed but i didn't realize the severity of it because he was not a very talkative person of his own emotions."

Lynch added that Miklos left behind a note and said, "The message that would be for the general public was that he knows there will be judgment. He said 'haters can hate and people can speculate whatever they want' but he is not going to give a specific reason and give that stratification to everybody." He said the note also instructed what to do with his body.

Gay porn actor Colby Keller remembered Miklos in a blog post and wrote he was "an incredible performer" who was "dedicated and professional." He also wrote, "off screen, his sense of humor kept the cast and crew continually entertained."

In January 2012, Miklos gained some exposure outside of the porn world when he appeared in the music video for out singer-songwriter Perfume Genius' single "Hood" off the musician's sophomore album "Put Your Back N 2 It."

According to Wikipedia, Miklos was born in Budapest, Hungary, and used to be a chemical engineer before becoming an adult film actor. He also contributed to LGBT charities and was involved in an American Apparel fundraiser for the Ali Forney Center.

Miklos' death comes just months after gay porn star Josh Weston died due to HIV related complications at the age of 39 on Dec. 16. The industry also lost superstar Erik Rhodes, who died of a heart attack on June 14, 2012 at the age of 30. Additionally, porn actor Dror Barak, better known as Roman Ragazzi, committed suicide on Feb. 25 at the age of 38 and Corbin Fisher model "Sean" died unexpectedly as well last year.
