With the latest nor'easter pummeling much of the country last week, much of the country has officially gone stir crazy from a frigid winter that doesn't want to let up. But technically, it's spring, and soon we'll all be spending more time in less clothes and don't you want to look and feel your best?

Enter Crunch, "no judgment" fitness centers across the country that are packed with personality, unique classes, and a welcoming environment for everyone.

Founded in 1989 in New York City's East Village, Crunch has grown to more than 200 locations throughout the U.S., celebrating diversity in each of its communities through its highly trained staff, local engagement, and top-of-the-line equipment.

Christine Stokes, Fitness Manager at Crunch Embarcadero in San Francisco, says that "no judgments" is a fundamental part of the brand's philosophy. "It's across the board - for the trainers, gym members, and community," notes Stokes. "We welcome all walks of life, regardless of your shape, size, color, or sexual orientation. We're here to create a fun, happy and healthy environment."

Stokes has been in the fitness industry for more than a decade and has personally noticed a shift in women's perspectives regarding workouts. "Women recognize that with proper nutrition, you can tone up, gain muscle and lose body fat," says Stokes. "It's a fallacy that you'll bulk up. More women are becoming comfortable with coming to the gym to reach their fitness goals."

That comfort level is a key, with a Crunch mantra that focuses on positivity, inclusivity and fun. But a strategic approach to working out is equally important. For those seeking to shed those extra winter pounds, Stokes encourages people to work on their mobility.

"When people try to lift weights without being properly prepared, they get hurt," says Stokes. "Don't do a fad diet, but pay attention to calories. Come to the gym and work your full body, aiming for one pound per week to avoid the boomerang effect of losing and then gaining it back."

Crunch's certified personal trainers customize each session for the individual's needs. Trainers participate in ongoing education units and receive new certifications to stay abreast of the latest research, trends and training modalities. For those who might want to ease into personal training or feel more comfortable in a group setting but want a bit of individualized attention, members can sign up for small group training sessions in a team environment.

Group fitness classes are also a terrific way to burn calories and connect with fellow gym members. Crunch is known for its high-energy workouts and offers a broad range of classes, ranging from aerial yoga and pole dancing to one of Stokes' favorite new additions, "Pound," which uses weighted drumsticks to create a rhythmic full-body interval workout.

As Stokes indicates, nutrition is also a key factor in overall wellness. Crunch's dotFIT program offers proper nutrition plans through an online platform and support community. Combined with consistent workouts, it's the ultimate package for those looking for a holistic reboot.

Crunch FiDi (Financial District) and Crunch South Slope (Brooklyn) are some of the newest clubs to join Crunch's New York City family, while Miami's South Beach location was recently renovated - what better locale to take a Circuit Party or Dance de la Soul class?
