Timothée Chalamet Continues His No-Shirt Suit Trend on the 'Wonka' Red Carpet

In the few short years over which Timothée Chalamet has become an A-list actor with household name recognition, he's also become one of the red carpet's most compelling and original style makers, a trend he continued this week at the "Wonka" premiere in London.

As reported by GQ, the "Call Me By Your Name" Oscar nominee has—with the help of his stylist Ryan Hastings—cultivated a unique, signature look that he's been doubling down on at major events all across the globe. The look, according to GQ, comes down to a few signature pieces: slim pants, combat or Chelsea boots, and fitted jackets showing just the right amount of skin underneath. And no Chalamet look would be complete without a statement necklace.

He did this to great effect at last year's Oscars, donning a sequined Louis Vuitton jacket, sans-shirt, that landed him on scores of best-dressed lists.

He also sported a red Haider Ackermann halter top to last year's Venice Film Festival, a look that was met with a bit more ridicule, one that spawned some great internet memes about the ultra-feminine look. But nevertheless, this look was an essential part of building Chalamet's signature red carpet look.

But Chalamet's signature look isn't only about shirtless suits: on his current "Wonka" press tour alone, he's experimented with some other bold looks including latex trench coats, waxy Prada suits, and Junya Watanabe leather.

While at a "Wonka" press event at Potters Field, Chalamet once again sported his signature no-shirt suit look complete with a pinstriped Alexander McQueen coat and a Cartier Juste un Clou necklace. Extra striking was his donning of a pair of McQueen combat boots, a welcome change from his usually heeled Chelsea boot.

To be fair, Chalamet did not create the no-shirt suit trend, although the fact that he looks so damn good in it means that he's played an integral part of keeping the trend out there. According to another GQ story, stylist Calyann Barnett put NBA superstar Dwyane Wade in such an outfit for his final NBA game. Since then—to our delight—Wade has regularly walked the red carpet sans-shirt.
