Massachusetts announced the monkeypox virus (MPV) vaccine is available for those who qualify at four clinics in the state, but eligibility is currently limited.

Yahoo! News cites a Fox Channel 25 report that a limited supply (2,004 doses) of the MPV vaccine (JYNNEOS vaccine) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been distributed on July 5 with more expected to become available in the coming weeks.

"The JYNNEOS vaccine requires two shots, 28 days apart for maximum effectiveness. People are considered fully vaccinated about two weeks after their second shot."

The criteria for eligibility are as follows:

  • Know that a sexual partner in the past 14 days was diagnosed with monkeypox

  • Had multiple sexual partners in the past 14 days in a jurisdiction with known monkeypox
