Teen Re-Shoots High School Yearbook Photo, Goes Fabulously Viral

Thursday September 8, 2016

Being fabulous is not an easy job.

A 17-year-old student in Bethlehem, N.Y. was so unsatisfied with his yearbook photos that he decided to have a re-shoot with improved lighting. The resulting over-the-top images are now going viral.

James Charles, an inspiring makeup artist, told BuzzFeed he requested a second shoot to get his photo right. The senior at Bethlehem Central High School said the "lighting was not ideal for my makeup so all my hard work at 7 a.m. didn't pay off."

He said he wouldn't have cared so much but "it was my senior picture and I knew it would be in the yearbook forever."

"I do love being extra," he told BuzzFeed. "I'm actually a pretty reserved person, I promise. When I say I'm extra it usually just comes to my makeup looks being extravagant, and I'm also never afraid to drag a local boy when he's being rude on Twitter."

Charles emailed the photography company asking if he could re-shoot his photos and bring along his own ring light. Of course, they said yes and the student was able to re-take the pics with his expertise and way he wanted.

After posting the pics online, his new photos went viral. On Twitter, Charles' image has been retweeted more than 34,000 times and earned 88,000 likes.

Charles, who has 45.5 thousand Twitter followers and 372,000 Instagram followers, said the reaction to his yearbook photos has been "so cool."

"I knew it would do pretty well on my Instagram page because my followers were really excited when I posted selfies from the morning of the original picture day, but I DID NOT expect the tweet and Insta pic to blow up this much," he told BuzzFeed.
