Prominent Miami Trans Woman Stabbed to Death by Husband
A Miami man has been arrested after stabbing and killing his wife, a well-known transgender woman prominent in the local LGBTQ community, NBC Miami reports.
Ygor Arrudasouza, 28 years old, called police to his Downtown Miami high-rise around 4:25a.m. on Tuesday, saying he had stabbed his wife.
Upon their arrival, police said Arrudasouza, in addition to admitting again that he'd stabbed his wife, spontaneously said that crystal meth had been a problem in his life. A woman was found in the high-rise lying on the floor, with stab wounds and covered in blood. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
As NBC Miami notes, "friends of the victim identified her as Yuni Carey... the first woman to change her Cuban passport to match her female identity."
According to the police report, Arrudasouza said he and his wife got into an argument on Tuesday and he became enraged when she said she "had a better man than him." Arrudasouza confessed to grabbing a fork and knife from the kitchen, heading to the bedroom where Carey was lying on the bed, and stabbing her multiple times. The suspect will face one count of second degree murder and one count aggravated battery.
