Out bisexual Irish Olympian Jack Woolley "was left drenched in blood and will require facial reconstructive surgery after a dozen people battered him in Dublin, Ireland," writes Pink News.

"Irish Olympic hero Jack Woolley has shared a series of disturbing videos and pictures of the aftermath of a horrific attack he endured in Dublin last night," reports the Irish newspaper reported the Independent in an Aug. 14 article.

"The Dubliner, who touched the heart of the nation when he broke down in tears during a TV interview following his Tokyo 2021 elimination, uploaded the pictures from St James's Hospital, where he was treated for his wounds."

The 22-year-old shared photographs from inside an ambulance and a hospital bed, showing blood-soaked clothing and lacerations across his face.

Woolley was Ireland's first Olympic representative in taekwondo. He was eliminated in the first round of the 58kg division at the Olympic Games last month.

Woolley was walking along the boardwalk by the River Liffey after dinner with friends on Friday night, August 14, when "out of the blue" he was attacked.

"Heading back along the River Liffey a gang of roughy 8-12 men and women in their 20s began violently attacking people along the boardwalk," he explained.

"Unfortunately, I was victim to these random attacks as I was just walking [by] before I was punched in the face by one of these group members."

Another man took a swing at him, then apologized: "My mistake," his attacker told him, "wrong person."

"Then they continued to run off down the road attacking more civilians minding their own business," Woolley added.

Just moments before he posed on the boardwalk. "I was looking well and all," he wrote in the caption.

Police said they attended the scene of an assault that occurred on Grattan Bridge in Dublin at approximately 12.40 am on Aug. 14.

"One man, aged in his 20s, was conveyed to St James's Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained during the incident," the police said. "No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing."

Woolley wrote on Instagram while in the hospital: "Luckily I was able to phone an ambulance and stay conscious. My friends helped me through out all over this and I'm glad to say they both are well and safe. I am lucky this is all that happened as there were a handful of us hospitalised and one I have heard to have died after being stabbed (word of mouth) I'm currently waiting in James's hospital for mouth surgery."
