It began when Donald Trump Jr. was whining on X (formerly Twitter) that it is no longer acceptable to use the "R" word. He wrote: "I know you're not allowed to use the R word that was a big part of our vernacular growing up if you're my age, but there has to be exceptions, right??? Because this is f&$king re$?&;ed!"

But Caitlyn Jenner chose to fill in the blanks.

She wrote: "I'll say it RETARTED!"

As one person responded on X, "Can't even slur properly."

Jenner immediately saw her spelling mistake and wrote a self-deprecating post acknowledging it, though she did not apologize for using the offensive word in the first place.

"The Special Olympics describes the 'R word' as a form of hate speech; it first emerged as a medical term, ie 'mental retardation' but in the decades since became used as a mocking term for people with intellectual disabilities," reported the Metro.

"In 2010, 'intellectual disability' replaced the original medical term in US federal law after then-president Barack Obama signed 'Rosa's Law.'"

However, it didn't take Jenner long to double-down and reuse the word — spelled correctly — in an attack on the Biden administration.

But the responses to her initial tweet came fast and furious, and were a mix of praising Jenner and slamming her:
