Arkansas Ban on Gay Foster Parents Faces Court Challenge
Opponents of the Arkansas law banning unmarried couples from fostering or adopting children say they have a better chance of overturning the law in court than getting it repealed by the Legislature.
The Arkansas chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit last week.
Executive director Rita Sklar says the group faces a better chance of success in court and less possibility of politics being injected into the case.
Also, Sklar says legislative repeal would require a two-thirds vote of the Legislature.
The ACLU filed the suit on behalf of more than a dozen families who say they'll be harmed by the law.
