Multi-Grammy nominated Lizzo - who is also TIME Magazine's "Entertainer of the Year" for 2019 - chatted with openly gay Democratic 2020 hopeful and mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg, during a segment of "CBS This Morning" that saw the two in the same room.

Host Gayle King asked Buttigieg to describe himself with three words; Buttigieg fired back, "Standing near Lizzo," drawing appreciative laugher.

The Millennial candidate - who has often referred to his youth as a strength for his campaign, given that his generation will the one that starts to feel the full effects of global problems like climate change - then had another chance to shine with a one-liner when he was asked whether he had recently had a DNA test done.

"Yes, and I am 100% that... nominee to lead the way forward," Buttigieg said, prompting more laughter from the small crowd in the studio, which may have expected him to complete the quote - from Lizzo's hit song "Truth Hurts" - with the words "that bitch."

The two were both booked as guests on the show's Dec. 12, 2019 edition. Buttigieg took to Instagram afterward to post about the occasion, sharing a photo of himself with the recording artist and writing that he was "Feeling good after chatting" with Lizzo.

Not everyone shared the sentiment. Mashable called the exchange "stilted," while social media users showed the expected level of snark.

"I've never seen Lizzo look uncomfortable," one Twitter user commented on a different photo of the two, in which Lizzo wore a neutral expression; "another accomplishment for the accomplishment candidate," the post added.

A Toyota poster on a wall visible on a wall in the photos prompted other sarcastic responses. Posted another Twitter user, "Green Book" - an apparent reference to a 2018 film that generated controversy, with critics saying that it reinforced old racial tropes.
