Angela Stanton-King, the Georgia Republican campaigning for the congressional seat occupied by Democratic representative John Lewis who passed away earlier this year, has equated support for LGBTQ youth with pedophilia, Metro Weekly reports.

Whether Stanton-King is fear-mongering or just completely ignorant, the GOP candidate misguidedly asserts that such support — providing safe spaces for LGBTQ youth to be who they are — is to sexualize children:

In March, Stanton-King elaborated on her allegations of pedophilia and the LGBTQ community, explaining to NBC News that "the LGBTQ community refer to people's sexual preferences — lesbians like women, gay people like men — and children shouldn't be walking advertisements for sexuality when they are not old enough to make their own decisions."

Her logic here reduces the LGBTQ experience to sexuality, failing to acknowledge the full humanity of LGBTQ people that conservatives like herself often afford heterosexual and cisgender people. Stanton-King's ignorance about — and manipulation of — LGBTQ people for her own political gain is a matter of public record — even if her anti-LGBTQ tweets have since been deleted.

The former reality TV show star — who was also pardoned this year by President Trump over her role in a car theft ring — will be challenged by Democratic State Senator Nikema Williams in the November 3 general election to fill the state's 5th Congressional District seat.
