George Santos Bemoans Flushing His Life for Politics

Republican Rep. George Santos is bemoaning the people he cheated ... er, the life he gave up to run for congress.

Yes, he is only a freshman congressman, but he is perhaps the most high-profile and controversial congressperson that is currently holding on to office for dear life.

After the New York Times published a bombshell report last year, revealing discrepancies about everything from his race to his educational background, Santos has now spoken to NYT about running for office, and why he doesn't regret it anything.

"I literally threw my entire life into the toilet and flushed it to get elected," he told reporter Grace Ashford, who was one of the reporters who helped dig up Santos' past.

Now, the New York Republican faces a slew of charges that could land him in prison for years. According to him, he is ready to fight the charges.

"People think that I'm just going to get steamrolled," he said. "No, I'm going to prove my innocence."

And he intends to use his platform as a congressperson to prove his innocence.

"In office, I actually have a platform," he said. "I have a voice."
