Lady Gaga Releases Single ’Applause’ Early
Lady Gaga's newest single "Applause" was scheduled to drop on August 19, but after "hackers" leaked snippets of the highly anticipated track over the weekend, Mother Monster decided to release the song a week early, according to Pop Justice and Gaga's Twitter account.
On Monday morning, the pop diva took to Twitter and wrote, "A POP MUSIC EMERGENCY IS UNDERWAY 911" and "911 SUMMON THE MONSTER TROUPES."
"DUE TO HACKERS AN ABUNDANCE OF LOW/HIGH QUALITY LEAKS...WE ISSUE THIS POP MUSIC EMERGENCY...MONSTERS SPREAD THE WORD," she wrote, adding, "MY NEW SINGLE 'APPLAUSE' IS OUT TODAY AND CAN BE HEARD ON UNITED STATES RADIO IN 15 MINUTES. INTERNATIONAL RADIO TO FOLLOW."
Over the weekend, a few seconds of "Applause," which serves as the debut single off her upcoming album "ARTPOP," was leaked online, which clearly upset Gaga, who tried to keep the song under wraps, Billboard reports.
She turned to Twitter to rant about the leak, writing, "Lord, in HEAVEN WHY," and "YOU JUST COULDNT WAIT THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR ONE SATURDAY." She later added, "Wanna grab some shovels and fuck up some hackers? @katyperry excited to hear your ROAR, sorry to hear about your truck!"
Katy Perry's newest single "Roar," off her fourth studio album "Prism," was leaked in full over the weekend but was officially released on Monday.
Gaga also lashed out against "blogger criticism" and told her fans on Twitter, "Dont focus on ANY blogger criticism. I have been a producer/songwriter/musician for over 10 years. Trust the artist bloggers are not critics."
"Let's make 2013 a year where music/talent/artistry is more important than gossip/fanwars I respect all fanbases 4 their passion #BeTheChange," she added.
"Applause," a dark synth-heavy almost industrial pop song, was produced by Gaga and DJ White Shadow. It was written by Gaga and Paul Blair. A music video is scheduled to come out on August 19, the single's original release date.
