It was reported Wednesday One Direction singer Liam Payne would appear on the cover of the gay publication, Attitude magazine. The singer took to Twitter Thursday to reveal the two covers of the issue, which will hit stores on September 16.

Payne appears on the cover without his 1D bandmates, who announced last month that they would be taking a hiatus in the not too distant future. The text on the covers suggest the "Drag Me Down" singer will open up about "his wild nights, gay rights and why homophobia should be a thing of the past."

Payne also appears in a 35-second clip from Attitude to promote the issue. Watch the clip below.

The hunky pop star has had issues with the LGBT community in the past. Last month, Payne went on a Twitter rant and apologized after some fans accused him of homophobic comments after a concert video surfaced on social media.

"This is my favorite song off the last album, and it is about trying to find that number one woman of your life -- which none of you can relate to, 'cause most of you are girls. Except for the boys in here... you know what I'm talking about," Payne told audience members at a concert in the clip.

But Payne told his fans: "I am in no way shape or form homophobic that's a ridicules thing to say and I'm not here to offend people so take it as you will."

He added: "So annoying trying your hardest to make people happy in a show and you think about all the notes u tried to hit higher or a little sweeter."

He later wrote, "I'm sorry to those I offended really I am but there's no need for some of the things I'm being called."

Additionally, Payne found himself in a similar situation last year after alleged photos of him, or someone who looked like him, with another man popped up online. The images prompted him to take to Twitter to tell fans he is not gay.

"Wow as if people think that weird photo going around is actually me lol think id rather tweet a full frontal than have people look at that," he wrote at the time.

He came under fire by some fans, however, who considered his tweet to be anti-gay.

"I'm 100 percent not homophobic," Payne replied to the criticism. "But I'm also 100 percent not gay so when somebody says I am, I'm gunna say I'm not which does not make me a homophobe."
