PopUps: Nick Jonas Opens Up On Gay 'Scream Queens' Character
After the premiere of Ryan Murphy's new "horror-comedy" show "Scream Queens" Tuesday, pop hunk and actor Nick Jonas opened up about his role, where he plays a recently out gay college student named Boone.
In an interview with CBS News Jonas said he was excited to work with Murphy, who created "Glee" and "American Horror Story."
"It's a pretty amazing show to be a part of. It's a great cast and something I've had a lot of fun doing," Jonas told CBS News.
Boone is a member of the Dickie Dollar Scholars fraternity, and eventually came out as gay in two-hour premiere.
"I've been so honored to get to play some really strong gay characters ... and whatever I can do for the community is just a blessing to me," Jonas told "Entertainment Tonight," according to On Top Magazine.
This isn't the "Jealous" singer's first time playing an out character. He also plays Nate Kulina, a gay MMA fighter, on the DirectTV series "Kingdom."
"There are some indications of some of the things to come and that story line developing a bit more," Jonas said about the upcoming season of the mixed martial arts fighting drama. And it's all about self-discovery. So for this character, it's a really important time in his life. And we're trying to tell the story honestly ... The MMA world, I think, would have a tough time embracing someone who was dealing with this. I'm loving telling this story and honored to tell it," he told CBS News.
After the premiere aired Tuesday night, Murphy tweeted to Jonas.
