PopUps: Wait, Did Sam Smith Just Throw Shade at Radiohead?

Wednesday January 13, 2016

It doesn't seem like Sam Smith is the biggest Radiohead fan around.

After winning a Golden Globe for Best Original Song Sunday night for his James Bond "Spectre" theme song "Writing's on the Wall," Smith attended the award show's press conference. There, the U.K. soul singer was asked if he was surprised when Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke unexpectedly released the band's rejected "Spectre" theme song on Christmas Day, Variety reports.

"Thom Yorke?" Smith asked. Songwriter and collaborator Jimmy Naples had to fill Smith in.

"Yeah, I was a little bit surprised," the "Latch" singer said. He added, with some annoyance: "Not going to lie, a little bit surprised, but I haven't listened to it personally because I did the 'Spectre' theme song."

Oh, the shade of it all! But it's OK, Sam. I can't imagine a world where Yorke has any idea who you are either.
