PopUps: Lifetime is Developing a Britney Spears Biopic
Lifetime is choosing to not leave Britney alone and is currently developing a biopic about the pop star, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Reportedly called "Britney," the two-hour TV movie will star Natasha Bassett ("Hail, Caesar!") as the "Make Me..." singer. Lifetime calls "Britney" a "tumultuous true story" about her rise to fame, fall from grace and return to the spotlight.
THR writes the film will "follow Spears' early career as a young girl from Louisiana and her relationship and breakup with Justin Timberlake as well as her personal struggles following her parents' divorce. Also set to be examined are her marriages to Jason Alexander, Kevin Federline and her downfall that saw her lose custody of her sons before she rebuilt her career and proved herself to be a force in entertainment."
"Britney" will go into production on Sept. 19 and is slated to debut in 2017.
Us Weekly reports Brit is not too pleased with the unofficial biopic. A rep for the performer released a statement, condemning "Britney."
"Britney Spears will not be contributing in any way, shape or form to the Lifetime biopic nor does it have her blessing," the rep told the magazine.
Lifetime has previously made unofficial biopics about Whitney Houston and Brittany Murphy, in addition to a TV-movie about the cast of "Saved by the Bell" and "Beverly Hills, 92010." News of "Britney" comes just days before Spears releases her ninth studio album "Glory," which is out Friday.
