Watch: Out Pro-Wrestler Mike Parrow Wears Rainbow Pride Flag into Ring

Monday October 29, 2018

After coming out as gay late last year, professional wrestler Mike Parrow is taking his LGBTQ pride into the ring.

OutSports reports the athlete wore a rainbow Pride flag while he competed at the National Wrestling Alliance's 70th anniversary show over the weekend.

Parrow, 34, later took to Twitter to thank those who supported him wearing the flag at the event.

"Pro Wrestling is a series of little moments that create lasting memories These moments have the power to influence wrestling's future!" he wrote.

The official account for the NWA also tweeted about Parrow's lovely moment, sharing a video of the wrestler entering the ring with the flag.

Parrow, who stands at 6'4" and weighs 300 pounds, came out as gay in December 2017. At the time, he said that he struggled with coming out and faced setbacks within the gay community.

"Gay men can be the meanest, cruelest people you've ever met in your life. I was 'fat,' I was 'ugly,' I'm a 'closet case,' and at the time I was just looking to understand what's going on," he told Gay Star News at the time. "I learned you can get very much masculine shamed in the gay community as of late, which is really weird, but it happens."

The way he says he was treated only pushed him deeper into the closet, Parrow said. He explained that he eventually hit a rock bottom and contemplated taking his own life.

"I drank a lot of vodka and I got ready," he said. "Then I got a phone call from a friend." He said he didn't come out to his friend, but something they said made him "realize...this is not what I want to do. This is not who I am."

In July, Parrow opened up about coming out and said that conversion therapy helped him realize he's gay.
