About a month after it was reported that Lionsgate was considering a sequel to the popular whodunit "Knives Out," and possibly making it a franchise, Deadline is reporting that the company's CEO officially announced a sequel.

CEO Jon Feltheimer made the announcement Thursday during Lionsgate's third-quarter earnings call, also hinting that "Knives Out" could become a franchise.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, "Knives Out" features an ensemble cast, including Daniel Craig, who plays Detective Benoit Blanc. The film also stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon, Ana de Armas and more. The Agatha Christie-style film earned more than $300 million worldwide at the box office and scored Johnson his first Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Deadline notes that Johnson has been talking about a sequel that would star Craig reprising is Blanc character, who is investigating another case.

"I had such a good time making it, such a great time working with Daniel, and now just seeing that audiences are responding to it, the idea of continuing it on seems like it would just be a blast," Johnson told Deadline last month. "But there's a lot that has to happen before that can happen, first and foremost being writing a script. So, we'll see."

Ram Bergman, Johnson's producing partner, told The Hollywood Reporter in January that Craig is excited to star in another "Knives Out" film.

"Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more," he said.
