Watch: New Golden Girls? Samantha-Erased 'SATC' Reboot to HBO Max
The proposed reboot of "Sex and the City" (sans Kim Cattrall) got the green light from HBOMax, Variety reports.
Called "And Just Like That..." it will star Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. Kim Cattrall is not returning. The three stars will executive produce, along with the show's frequent creative, Michael Patrick King.
"The revival will follow Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Charlotte York (Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Nixon) as they navigate love and friendship in their 50s," writes Variety. "The series will consist of 10 half-hour episodes and is set to begin production in New York City in late spring."
The show's stars posted the news on Instagram with a teaser video that featured footage of New York City interspersed with a typewritten text reading: "And just like that... The story continues..."
On SJP's Instagram, which contains the video, she wrote: "I couldn't help but wonder... where are they now?"
"I grew up with these characters, and I can't wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them," Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, said in a statement.
Some, though, immediately thought of another iconic series:
How the absence of Samantha Jones is to be handled, or if her character will re-cast with another actress, is TBA. Either way, don't expect the bad blood between Cattrall and Parker to end soon. In September 2017 a planned third film was shelved, and Cattrall went public about her unhappy work experiences on the series. The next month she told Piers Morgan that she and her co-stars had "never been friends."
Cattrall continued: "This is really where I take to task the people from 'Sex and the City,' and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker. I think she could've been nicer. I really think she could've been nicer. I don't know what her issue is."
"Although a subsequent New York Post article detailed some 'mean girl' behavior toward Cattrall from the other three, Parker maintained that she was 'heartbroken' by the falling out, telling pal Andy Cohen: 'I found it very upsetting because that's not the way I recall our experience,' " reports the Daily Mail.
