Watch: Meet Aaron & Matt: the UK's 'The Traitors' Bromancing Contestants
For those viewers who couldn't get enough of the Peacock reality series "The Traitors," the streaming service has released both the U.K. and Australian versions.
On the U.K. series, two sexy contestants, Aaron Evans and Matt Harris, bromanced their way through the competition.
The show's premise brings together a group of strangers into a Scottish castle (in the U.S. and U.K. versions) in which a number of participants are labeled "traitors" and systematically "murder" the others, who are called "faithfuls." The U.S. series was given a campy boost with the presence of out Scottish-born actor Alan Cumming as host, whose sarcastic commentary was often hilarious as it was cutting. Cumming isn't hosting the British version — those duties are being performed by Claudia Winkleman, whose Gothic look and haughty style is perfect for the show's calculated premise.
What distinguishes the U.K. version from its U.S. one is that the participants are all every day people. On the U.S. version, half of the contestants are reality show stars from "Survivor," "Big Brother," "Real Housewives" and more. This may be the reason the drama has been so heightened. The highly charged confrontations has led to fiery arguments and tears, often amongst the male participants; along with some unusual alliances.
One of those was the bromance between two of the youngest male participants, Aaron Evans, a 24-year-old real estate agent, and Matt Harris, a 23-year-old BMX athlete. The pair hit it off right from the start, so much so that when the traitors met for an early meeting, it was suggested their nurturing alliance needed to be broken up. Throughout the early episodes, the pair were often seen together to the point they appeared to be a couple. Of course, Matt's drama rest with his pursuing another female contestant, Alex, who (unbeknownst to him) was already in a relationship with another participant, which led to many tears when the relationship was revealed.
"I just remember being so upset because everyone was shouting at everyone the whole time," Matt told The Metro. "I heard that news. I didn't know what to do with myself, I just broke down on national television!'
Spoiler alert: But when Matt was thought to be a traitor and sent home, Aaron's response was also dramatic as through his tears he lamented that his "best mate" would no longer be sharing strolls with him around the Scottish castle. In an interview with the Daily Mail (which is full of spoilers, so beware), Aaron said that he has been getting a lot of attention since the show aired: "Yeah, mainly from men," he said. He is currently single.
Part of why Aaron was so emotional on the show, most notably when he had to leave a meeting due to a panic attack, was due to him having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) during his time on the series. He spoke about it to the Daily Mail:
"It feels so weird because looking back I was just trying to be myself and I would say I'm quite an emotional person and they message me and say, 'This has helped me so much' and 'thank you so much for opening up on national TV.'"
And while TV-ready Aaron wants to do more television, he won't be on "Love Island."
"If anything comes along I'd be more than happy to, it's so much fun so I'd definitely do something again, but I don't know about 'Love Island.' I don't think I'm cut out for 'Love Island.' Any reality TV show I'd be more than up for," he explained.
Maybe there's an opening on "For the Love of DILFS?"
