Just How Did Patrick Schwarzenegger Learn of 'The Tight Lotus?'
Patrick Schwarzenegger told W of how he learned of a queer adult male parody of "The White Lotus."
He was commenting on the weird things that have happened since Season Three of Mike White's hit HBO show aired earlier this year, but the one he mentioned occurred to him the week before while he was at the gym with friends. "[A]nd a guy walked up to me and said, 'I love your work, and I had to come over to you because my boyfriend just booked playing Saxon Ratliff in "The Tight Lotus."' I said, 'What is that?' And he said, 'Tight Lotus — it's a new porno coming out!' And I said, 'Excuse me?' And he goes, 'Yeah — he's playing you.' I was like, 'Oh my god!'"
He didn't say whether or he was going to watch it or not, but considering his character, Saxon Ratliff, the protein-shake drinking alpha male, had a three-way with his younger brother, Lochlan (Sam Nivola), it is easy to imagine Patrick wanting to at least take a peek. Schwarzenegger became a fan of the show after watching Season 1 with his mom Maria Shriver and fiancée Abby Champion, and he jumped at the opportunity to audition for the show (coded as "The Secret Garden" in the invite series creator Mike White sent him).
"I had to do five auditions. The final one was the scene where the two girls are telling me that I had a threesome with my brother, and I'm just melting in my lounge chair. That was a fun one to do. To prepare, I was with my real brother, Christopher, and he was playing the two girl parts. He started reading them, and he said the line 'I didn't force your brother to jerk you off.' Christopher said, 'What happens in this?!' I was like, 'Dude, just read it.' And I had to swear him to secrecy."
"Luckily, audiences ate up Saxon, and especially his special bond with his younger brother, Lochlan (played by Sam Nivola)," writes W. "By the end of the eight-episode season, the despicable Saxon had not only survived, but managed to attain a tiny shred of likability. And with his convincing performance, Schwarzenegger is now a strong Emmys contender."
As for "The Tight Lotus: A Gay XXX Parody," it landed on Men.com this past Wednesday. The film stars Seth Peterson and Ryan Orion as vacationers whose hotel game of Truth or Dare takes an unexpected turn when a dare leads them to share a kiss. Directed by Marc McNamara, the scene marks the debut of Ryan Orion.
Who plays Saxon? No one, apparently. The credits for the film list Peterson as Seth and Orion as Ryan.
