11 Days After Announcement, Adviser Says Kanye West is No Longer Running for President

Just 11 days after announcing his late bid for the White House, an adviser to Kanye West told New York Magazine's Intelligencer that he is no longer running for president.

"He's out," adviser Steve Kramer said. "I'll let you know what I know once I get all our stuff canceled."

He said he was hired by the "Ultralight Beams" rapper to help him get the ballots by gathering signatures in two key states: Florida and South Carolina.

"We had overwhelming support to get him on the ballot," Kramer said. "I have nothing good or bad to say about Kanye. Everyone has their personal decision about why they make decisions. Running for president has to be one of the hardest things for someone to actually contemplate at that level."

He also suggested that this might not be the last time we see West in politics, telling The Intelligencer that "any candidate running for president for the first time goes through these hiccups."

West tweeted on July 4 that he was running for president.

"We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States!" he wrote.

The Hill writes: "West's late entry into the race, which is decided in November, meant he would need to scramble to file with the Federal Election Commission in order to appear on any state ballots. The deadline had already passed for several states."

Nevertheless, West gave an interview with Forbes magazine not long after his tweet, saying he no longer supports President Donald Trump. In a recent national poll about who Americans would vote for as the next president, West earned 2% of the vote.
