Kathy Griffin Reveals Cancer Diagnosis, Will Undergo Surgery
This morning, edgy comedian and longtime LGBTQ ally Kathy Griffin revealed she has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will undergo surgery.
As The Hollywood Reporter detailed, Griffin, 60, who proclaims to have never been a smoker, took to Twitter and Instagram to reveal the unfortunate news. What's more, Griffin is expected to receive surgical treatment that entails the removal of half of her left lung.
Speaking of her cancer diagnosis, Griffin shared that "doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one" and has not spread, adding, "Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this."
"It's been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I'm gonna be just fine," she went on to say in what seemed to be a reference to what CNN recalled was the "backlash that followed a controversial photo shoot she did holding a fake, bloody head that resembled Donald Trump" in 2017.
That same year, CNN recounted, "Griffin shaved her head in honor of her sister Joyce who was battling cancer; her sister died that September.
"Griffin also lost her brother Gary to cancer in 2014," CNN added.
