Pastors Want Michigan Gay Marriage Ban to Stand
In the eve of trial, dozens of pastors from around Michigan are speaking out in favor of the state's ban on gay marriage.
They held a news conference Monday at a Detroit church, saying family stability and the Bible demand marriage only between a man and a woman.
A trial starts Tuesday in Detroit federal court on the future of Michigan's gay marriage ban, which was approved by voters in 2004. Two female nurses who are raising three adopted children are challenging it. They say it violates their rights under the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
The Rev. Roland Caldwell says, "The fight is on." He says it's wrong to overturn the will of the people expressed through the ballot box.
The trial could last two weeks.
