Shane Ramos is an admissions coordinator at Recovery Unplugged. He's also transgender and understands the complexities facing the LGBTQ community regarding substance abuse.

According to a National Survey on Drug Use and Health, LGBTQ populations are twice as likely as heterosexuals to suffer from a substance abuse disorder. Recovery Unplugged's innovative treatment model harnesses the power of music to tap into the root emotional causes of addiction, and creates an action plan for those in recovery to get and stay clean.

Ramos represents an LGBTQ-friendly staff that welcomes everyone, regardless of their sexual or gender identification — a hugely important first step toward recovery.

In this exclusive video created in collaboration with EDGE, Ramos shares his personal experience and why Recovery Unplugged is an industry leader in addiction treatment.
