Watch: Cardi B's New Song 'WAP' Triggers More Republicans to Have Twitter Meltdowns
Cardi B's new single "WAP," featuring Megan Thee Stallion, is striking a chord with conservatives who have taken their tantrums over the song to Twitter.
While the song has been praised by fans, celebs and more, a number of Republicans are taking issue with lyrics of "WAP," which stands for "Wet-Ass Pussy." Over the weekend, James P. Bradley, a Republican running for a Congressional seat in California, expressed his feelings about the song, which he said he "heard accidentally," and that it made him "want to pour holy water in my hears."
On Monday afternoon, conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro was also triggered by "WAP" and had a similar meltdown. Billboard reports that on the most recent episode of his program, Shapiro read some of the song's lyrics out loud while a censored version of the music video played behind him. Though he had no problem reading the lyric, "There's some whores in this house," Shapiro censored himself when reading further: "Wet ass p-word. P-word is female genitalia," he explained to his viewers. "And it gets significantly, significantly more vulgar, like a lot more vulgar."
"Guys, this is what feminists fought for," Shapiro said during his radio show. "This is what the feminist movement is all about. It's not really about women being treated as independent, full-rounded human beings. It's about wet a-- p-word. And if you say anything differently, [it's] because you're a misogynist, you see."
After making his comments, someone remixed them into the song itself, sparking Shapiro to respond.
"Listen, guys. I fully explained on the show that it's misogynistic to question whether graphic descriptions of 'wet-ass p****' is empowering for women. 'WAP' is obviously an incredibly profound statement of women's empowerment, a la Susan B. Anthony," he tweeted. "As I also discussed on the show, my only real concern is that the women involved -- who apparently require a 'bucket and a mop' -- get the medical care they require. My doctor's wife's differential diagnosis: bacterial vaginosis, yeast infection, or trichomonas."
Conservative pundit DeAnna Lorraine also took issue with "WAP," calling it "degrading" and later adding the song "set the entire female gender back 100 years."
Other conservatives also sounded off.
Cardi responded to the hate in a hilarious tweet.
