Aria DiMezzo, New Hampshire's first trans, anarchist, Satanic candidate, lost her bid for Sheriff in the New Hampshire's Cheshire County on Tuesday.

DiMezzo ran unopposed as a Republican having unexpectedly snared the nomination in September. She lost to five-term Sheriff, Democrat Eli Rivera Sentinel Source reports.

DiMezzo had "no law-enforcement background" who ran with campaign signs that read "FthePolice," the Sentinel Source wrote. She also ran ran on a platform of ending the drug war and confronting systemic racism in policing, writing a candidate questionnaire to the paper that "the sheriff department should police the police and protect people from aggression." DiMezzo earned 7,950 votes on Tuesday, contrasting with 27,674 for Rivera.

Here's how she responded to the loss:

As EDGE reported in September, DiMezzo, who had intended to run as a Libertarian, ran as a Republican after discovering the GOP candidate had dropped out, running unchallenged and securing her candidacy. Unsurprisingly, DiMezzo received no support from the GOP, and had repeatedly been misgendered by the Cheshire County GOP chair, Marylin Huston. "They are clearly not on my side," DiMezzo said. And looking to Rivera on the left, DiMezzo assessed at the time "I'm more liberal than he is."

Both were challenged by Earl Nelson of Marlborough, a former GOP candidate who initiated a write-in campaign after the September 8 primary. Nelson earned approximately 2800 votes, though the exact number is not clear — as the Sentinel states that "seven towns did not report write-in votes, and another town reported the total number of write-ins without listing names.:"

Following the George Floyd murder, Rivera was named by Keene Mayor George S. Hansel to an advisory committee examining racial justice and public safety. Rivera has also said that he will review department policies on policing including use-of-force, and budgeting for use of body camera.
