Watch: Attacker Strikes Gay Man, Hurls Anti-LGTBQ Slurs
A security camera caught the moment when a man entering a CVS in the vicinity of Penn Station in New York City was suddenly attacked by an assailant who punched him while hurling anti-gay slurs, the New York Post reports.
The victim, 24, "had entered a CVS at 5 Pennsylvania Plaza around 7 p.m. Saturday [April 24] when the attacker, walking in the opposite direction, punched him in the back of the head and neck," the story relates.
Security video released by the police show the victim had barely entered the store when the attacker, who was heading out of the building, suddenly swung at him, knocking him down.
The attacker reportedly hurled the slur "Fucking gays!" at the man during the assault.
"Officials say the suspect then fled on foot going westbound on 34th Street towards 9th Avenue," ABC News 7 reports.
The security footage released by the authorities includes footage of the attacker walking along the sidewalk. He stops and turns to look back before continuing on his way.
NBC News reports that the victim declined medical treatment at the scene.
Police have asked the public to help in identifying the attacker.
