Same-sex Penguin Couples at Melbourne Aquarium Are Now 'Fab Uncles'
At the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, two same-sex gentoo couples are now guncles to a brand new chick.
As reported by The West Australian, same-sex duos Klaus Jones and Tiger Branston are now fostering the newest member of their gentoo penguin colony, a little 1.4-kilogram fluff-ball called Chips.
"Both Tiger and Branston and Klaus and Jones are thrilled to play the role of fabulous uncles to baby Chips," the Aquarium said in a statement to AAP. "(They) have been a couple for a few years now, and have bred and raised chicks in the past," the aquarium's penguin team said.
Gentoo penguins reportedly only nest once a year just before the start of spring and are usually monogamous throughout a season.
It will be next year until Klaus and Jones and Tiger and Branston will have the chance to potentially raise a chick, but for now, they will be fabulous uncles.
