The National Organization for Marriage, a faith-based group aiming to ban marriage for same-sex couples nationwide, launched the 'Reclaim Iowa' campaign August 24.

"The Reclaim Iowa Project is a multi-year campaign to pass a state constitutional amendment reversing last spring's same-sex marriage ruling from the Iowa Supreme Court," an e-mail from NOM stated. "Iowans overwhelmingly oppose same-sex marriage."

Iowa became the fourth state in the country to legalize marriage equality on April 27, 2009. After the ruling was issued, the White House released a statement saying that President Obama "believes that committed gay and lesbian couples should receive equal rights under the law."
