With Midnighter #1 now on stands from DC Comics just in time for LGBT Pride Month, DC All Access presents a brief history of LGBT characters found within the DC Universe, featuring The Advocate's Jase Peeples. From the early days of the Comics Code all the way to Catwoman's recent same-sex kiss, Jase looks at touchstones and turning points, revealing how far we've come and illustrating why it's so important that comics remain inclusive.

As Steve Orlando, the openly gay writer of the Midnighter's adventure, related in this month's interview: "It's reflective of our times that we have queer characters represented in our comics -- it's reflective of the readership." Check out the video below for a detailed look at other caped wonders proudly waving the rainbow colors in the DC Universe.

With an all-new directive beginning this month that launches more diversity in its storytelling, it seems only appropriate that finally superheroes get in on the action and include a representation of LGBTQ characters fighting for truth, justice and equality!
