This year's Pride Parade will chart a new course through historic downtown Boston, starting in the South End on Tremont Street (between Clarendon and Rutland) and then proceeding up Tremont to Berkeley, where the route will follow Berkeley to Boylston and Charles Streets. Before feeding back into Tremont Street, the new route will pass by the Statehouse. The final destination of the route will be City Hall Plaza and the Boston Pride Festival.

The city of Boston approved the new route, which was proposed by Boston Pride to avoid construction on Boylston. The new locale for the Pride Festival--which is the traditional end point for the parade--also made the new route necessary.

The president of Boston Pride, Linda DeMarco, praised the city for its assistance and cooperation. "We were fortunate to have had the support of the Special Events, Police and Transportation departments of the City of Boston in working out the details and logistics." DeMarco also gave kudos to neighborhood associations in the South End and Beacon Hill.

In recent years, huge crowds have turned out to see the parade. An estimated 500,000 spectators line the route, which last year included more than 180 marching groups, 6,000 marchers, and nearly 100 floats and other vehicles.
