Ant Brings Queer Stand-Up to Pride Fest
After being challenged by Dustin Diamond (TV's Screech) to a brawl on VH1's hit reality series Celebrity Fit Club, you'd think comedian Ant would be ready to call it quits. But he's working harder than ever now, appearing on Last Comic Standing and his own LOGO show "U.S. of Ant." This weekend he jumpstarts the Stonewall Festival with a pre-pride performance entitled, "3 Jokers." He, Michele Balan, and Jessica Kirson promise to deliver queer-tinged stand-up comedy to a "Full house with nothing straight."
"It's so important to be working gay pride events," Ant explained. " We have to capture the world's attention, and show them that we're just like everyone else." Ant got his big break in Last Comic Standing and now judges the competition with his friend Kate Madigan. It's been a huge hit for NBC, hitting number 1 in the ratings with all of their target demographics.
His show Celebrity Fit Club had a very dramatic season with a turbulent Dustin Diamond causing all types of chaos on camera and off. "There was so much they didn't show. They only showed what network TV would allow. He was, by far, the craziest contestant I ever had to work with on that show or any other."
According to Ant, the gay audience is the best kind, especially in a recession like ours. "The only people with disposable income to buy cds, dvds, and shirts and stuff are gay people."
He looks forward to his trip to Fort Lauderdale, noting that, apparently, Fort Lauderdale is a very sexual city. "I have a friend who can't get laid anywhere but in Fort Lauderdale. There is something about that city."
He promised to bring an act that's as "blue and raunchy as possible. I may even talk about Paris Hilton, or is that already too pass??"
Either way, it looks to be a great kick-start to the Stonewall Festival this weekend. "3 Jokers" takes place this Saturday, June 23rd at 7:00 pm at The War Memorial Auditorium. Reserved seats are $25 dollars, reserved VIP seats are $35, and reserved meet and greet tickets are $50. Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com or by calling 954-828-5380.
