Montreal's Gay Pride parade is back on this year thanks to a newly formed community group that is stepping in to organize the event.

Celebration Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and all Friends (LGBTA) announced Monday it will stage the parade July 29, after Divers/Cit? bowed out earlier this spring.

Divers/Cit?, the main group behind Montreal's Gay Pride week, said it no longer wants to head up the parade because it needs to focus on organizing artistic and cultural events.

Celebration LGBTA has already amassed more than half of the $120,000 parade budget, said spokesman Jeffrey Spivock.

Additional funding will come from "registration fees from people joining the parade and the community day, which have already started coming in," he told CBC News.

The parade also self-finances through advertising in the souvenir program, Spivock said.
