Stonewall Street Festival Prepares to Heat Up South Florida
The 9th Annual Stonewall Street Festival is just around the corner and this year it's sizzling with pride as its entertainment heats up Wilton Drive like never before. The lineup for this year's pride festival is fun and fabulous.
Festivities kick off on Monday, June 16th... and on the weekend Tammy Wright, Crystal Waters, DJ Joe Bermudez, and DJ Tracy Young get the party started on the streets of Wilton Drive for the two day festival (June 21 - June 22.)
Channel 7's anchorman Craig Stevens and female impersonator, Daisy D will be joining in on the celebration as the parade commentators.
So if you're looking for good company, good music, and good drinks, you won't want to miss out on this festival as it will be the talk of the town for months.
On Saturday, Rosie's Bar & Grill is starting the celebration with a special t-dance starting at 5pm. Then at 7pm, DJ Joe Bermudez will be pumping up the volume from the VIP Rainbow Lounge on the Main stage right smack in front of the parade route.
As Bermudez gets the crowd going, the first ever night parade will begin at 8pm kicked off by the National Anthem sung by AMUKA (singer/songwriter Sheila Brody).
The first-ever night parade promises to be a welcome change. Anyone whose attended the parade for the past couple of years knows it's been way too hot during the day to have a good time.
Stonewall Street Festival Chairman, Bobby Kyser says he's looking forward to the night parade the most. Kyser said, "It's going to be amazing, there are 20 lit floats and I've seen what some of the people are doing and it's just amazing. There's even going to be fireworks."
Three awards will be given for festival entries and those are: Stonewall Award for the best overall float entry, Fairies Over Florida for the best lighting entry and Rubdy Sandal for the best walking entry.
The judges are none other than porn star Mathew Rush, Priest/Father Bill Collins, and Princess Jodi Ihme, Director of Shadowwood II.
Following the madness of the night parade, former B5 vocalist, Tammy Wright will keep the mob moving as she performs her hit song, "Passion" and "Fly Away."
Wright says she is very excited to perform at the festival since it's her first performance since 2000. "This is my way to give thanks back to the community for all the support they have given me over the years, I am truly honored to be performing at this festival."
Ending the evening with the sounds of DJ Joe Bermudez on the turn table and eight choreographed dances from Orlando's group Visual EFX at midnight, you'll only have enough sleep to get ready for Sunday.
Wake up to Mimosas and Bloody Mary's for the one mile street fair starting at 10am. R&B singers/Hard Rock Casino's talented Bobby Pruitt and Helena Redman will begin the morning with all the classics.
Then taking the keys, dueling pianists from Howl at the Moon, will keep the blood pumping and the flow of the street fair alive as the stage warms up for nationally acclaimed DJ Tracy Young.
Young's chosen tunes will keep the glasses tinkering with Mimosas and Bloody Mary's as the festival welcomes international singing sensation Crystal Waters. Waters will tear up the stage with her famous hits, "100 Percent Pure Love," "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)", and her new hit single "Destination Unknown."
Keeping the spirit alive, Church of Holy Spirit singing group will keep the hymns and music flowing as it gets ready for scorching Brazilian Martha Luizza and her dancers to take center stage.
Sizzling with pride, Luizza will get your hips shaking and your body moving. Finally at 5pm, the festival will close with a MTV setup for New York DJ Adam Morales and Daisy D with her girls mixing it up and dragging it out like never before.
The entertainment seems endless and with all the marvelous people prancing in the streets, this year's celebration of pride is shaping up to be the best yet.
