Monday January 11, 2016

Sam Smith took to Instagram to celebrate his Golden Globe win as well as honor David Bowie, who passed away Sunday.

Smith won a Golden Globe award Sunday night for Best Original Song for the James Bond theme "Writing's on the Wall" in "Spectre."

Smith beat out Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do," from "Fifty Shades of Grey," and the chart-topping pop anthem "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth from "Furious 7," which honored the late Paul Walker.

Also nominated was Sumi Jo's "Simple Song #3" for the film "Youth."

Smith, along with songwriter Jimmy Naples, appeared on stage to accept the trophy at the 73rd Golden Globes. Katy Perry presented the duo wit the award.

"I genuinely didn't think we were gonna get this," Smith said.

Billboard points out "Writing's on the Wall" peaked at No. 71 on the Hot 100 and reached No. 1 on the U.K. singles chart.

Smith later took to Instagram to celebrate his win.

A few hours later, upon learning of Bowie's passing, Smith posted the album cover for "Heroes," sharing his condolences for the legendary singer's family.
